Curly quotes and apostrophe's

I've got a really cranky client who's unhappy that she's unable to paste word documents (were talking many) into her site with this editor without losing all the quotation marks and apostrophes in her documents.

My only solution (unsatisfactory as far as the client is concerned) is to do a global search and replace in Word to replace all the curly quotes and apostrophes with straight ones before pasting.

It does seem odd to me that these characters get dropped when the editor posts them.

Any suggestions?

No, the demo site worked fine.

On my pages, it asks if you want to clean the Word HTML, but it displays the "curly quotes", where on the sample site, it shows the straight ones. Then when the page is submitted all the curly stuff is just gone.

Hmmm, what could I have done wrong.....

It is version 4.5.0.1 as near as I can tell.

I figured it out - eventually. Not a CuteEditor issue, but a Dreamweaver issue.

By default, Dreamweaver dotnet generated pages include the page directive:

<%@ Page Language="VB" ContentType="text/html" ResponseEncoding="iso-8859-1" %>

and the meta tag:

The default charset iso-8859-1, which is a web standard, doesn't include the "curly" quotes and apostrophe, so they get dropped. The civilized solution seems to be to use "UTF-8" Unicode encoding.
